If you were to see the current scene, you might suspect that it's something that happens often in the Pendergast household. Well, not that often, since Rain isn't usually there--

--but Ryan is currently angry, Tristan is grinning, and Rain is smirking. Normal, normal, normal.

"--and it's not like I really told her that much about you," Tristan continues from one of his long rambles, "because I think it was Demosthenes that spiked your drink and made you really drunk in front of her, at which point I think you were doomed, but at least I didn't tell her about the lamp thing, though I wish I did, but I wasn't there so I don't think it would've been accurate--"

Ryan simply glares.

"Fight, fight, fight," Rain softly chants from the side, in the middle of sketching something, which only serves to intensify the glare, but Tristan runs to a table near the door and strikes a pen against the side of a vase to make a pinging noise.

"Round one!" He beams, "Tristan I-still-can't-remember-my-middle-names-but-I'm-sure-they're-threatening Pendergast versus Ryan 'The Lamp Killer' Pendergast." He puts his fists up in a mock-boxing pose.

Ryan shakes his head and finds a sofa to read on, Rain giggles without looking up, and Tristan looks a little lost now that he no longer has a brother to bother. Any of them would welcome an interruption. -- Well, not Ryan, but since when do we care what he thinks?

Typist: This is me being lazy and being unable to make a decision. I wanted to openpost all three of them, but I only wanted to make one post. Um. So, go ahead and choose one to single out, or talk to two or all of them if you want to break my brain and if you promise to watch the thread carefully (because I might want to post more than one comment at once). But please send puppets and amuse me because spring break is over soon. ;____; I might not respond quickly, but I will get to it.

When pearatherlip started out in Feb 2007 they couldn’t handle any more than 2 strings at a time, now after a long period of dedicated practice pearatherlip is finally beginning to master the bass.

therainbowsheep has come on leaps and bounds since the band’s formation in Feb 2007 and is now considered to be one of the most underated drummers in the country.

Whereas pendergastmon and pearatherlip are hardskinned party animals who like nothing more than to get drunk and fuck, verseslikeroses prefers to spend their time composing melodies and working with chord progressions.

She's never, ever cheerful or happy, and she likes to write dark lyrics about how her dog died and her rent couldn't be paid-- though I think that sounds more like country music or blues than anything emo, and I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore. Um. No, she's probably the farthest you can get from it.

55) Do you have liesiweave's screenname? I do! Sadly, if my siblings ever got any sort of instant messenger, they would probably block me on it. Maybe they already have. I'm kind of annoying online, because I keep sending things and don't really give people a chance to answer, though that's not too different from me offline, actually.

56) If wormwoodandgall and invertedtoo were spliced together, what would it be like? That would be really, really terrifying. Good-looking, intelligent, and possibly fun to be around -- but terrifying.

58) What would ramblingbrat do differently in your shoes? She probably wouldn't be dating Erebus, sadly. Or happily, because she wouldn't be me. But there would be the same amount of Ryan-tormenting, though she probably couldn't date him, because if she were in my shoes, he'd probably be a sibling of hers, right? I think that's how the question works.

59) Would likemygstring be a better ninja or pirate? Even though she was on our ship the last time we sailed and made a decent pirate, she would make an awesome ninja pirate.

60) Is messofinnocence friends with perpetual_youth? I don't think they've met, but they should, and he should be friends with her, because everyone should be friends with him.

61) Do you think perpetual_youth is hot? ... no. Except that sounds kind of mean, so I'll say that yes, she's pretty, but no, I don't find her attractive in the non-sibling way.

The log of doom, in which Tristan still-can't-remember-his-middle-names Pendergast gets tortured by Anaximander. I'm a horrible person.

Anaximander: *since Nicomedes has gone for the evening, Anaximander is wandering around by himself, slightly psychotic-- randomly freezing in the middle of walking, or lightly tapping miscellaneous objects like the bottom of a mirror, a doorknob, or a vase of flowers--*
Anaximander: *finally settles himself on a sofa, starting intently at a spot on the wall opposite him*
Tristan: *walks into the room, and as he spots Anaximander, looks a little more subdued than usual (but only a little bit!)--* Hi! Is Nicomedes with you? I haven't seen him in a while, and he's pretty much the only Pendergast of Diogenes' that doesn't freak me out, which you're proving even more by the way you're staring at that wall. I mean, Grace and Ryan and Rain are pretty awesome-- and you, of course-- but there's still something kind of creepy about all of you.
Anaximander: *looks up from the spot on the wall with a slightly off-kilter grin* Ave, frater.
Tristan: ... Hi, Anaximander. I'd really, really rather you not say that phrase because as much as I like both of my dads, I kind of ignore the fact that they're brothers from a day-to-day basis. Besides, it's just plain creepy. But I think we've already established that.
Anaximander: *blinks once*
Tristan: Um, okay. I think you're even more difficult to talk to than Ryan, because Ryan actually says something witty or hilarious back, even if it's only a few words, and you just blink at me.
Anaximander: There is nothing worth saying.
Tristan: -- To me, or just in general? If it's the first thing, that's kind of sad, because there's always something worth saying to me, because I'd probably turn it into a huge ramble. You could always be like "Wow, you're incredibly smart!" or "Your hat looks nice today!" or something like that.
Tristan: And if it's the second one, and it's just in general, you obviously need to take lessons from me. Because I haven't even had a single sip of caffeine today, and I'm already rambling like crazy. It's really simple. You just talk about whatever's on your mind, even if it sounds entirely idiotic, but it makes you seem weirdly cool, which is what I aim for-- because after a while, people just tune out, and it doesn't even matter what you're talking about.
Anaximander: *was sitting there patiently through the entire thing; tilts his head now* Do you think I will ever be like father?
Tristan: -- Which you obviously just did. And no, not at all, I think you're the farthest from Diogenes anybody could ever get. You know, sunshine and bunnies and other fluffy things. *slight, joking grin*
Anaximander: Oh. That's unfortunate.
Tristan: I wasn't-- *gives up* I can't decide whether you're really this crazy or if it's all a stunt to, you know, make us lower our guard around you, because we'd all think "Oh, Anaximander's nothing to worry about! He's just a little odd in the head!" Except we don't do that because acting crazy just makes you more frightening.
Anaximander: *after a slight pause* You're right.
Tristan: ... What am I right about? That you're incredibly psychotic by nature or by copying dad or because you had some sort of traumatic event happen--
Anaximander: *interrupts* That a scalpel is the best way to skin a human being, especially if it is blunt.
Tristan: *--wtf* I-- don't think I said that. Unless I forgot that I had once said it, but it doesn't sound like something I'd usually say. I'd be more likely to say something like "You know, a scalpel is the best way to impress a guy, especially if you twirl it around and then smirk!" -- but not that. Unless I said it in my sleep, which is entirely possible, except the idea that you were ever watching me in my sleep makes me nervous.
Tristan: In fact, this entire situation is making me nervous right now.
Anaximander: *smiles thinly* I should make you shut up.
Tristan: *--begins inching towards the door; hopefully* By giving me cake?
Anaximander: *and without warning, suddenly just springs at him, and would you look at that-- in his left hand was hidden a chemical-filled cloth of some sort*
Tristan: *despite his relaxed attitude, Tristan is actually pretty alert and aware of what's happening in his surroundings -- but like his father, Anaximander has an almost animalistic quality to him, so the attack takes Tristan by surprise* *reflexively holds up his hands to block his face, attempting to dart around Anaximander and towards the door*
Anaximander: *snarls slightly and fiercely kicks a leg under Tristan, effectively tripping him*
Tristan: *falls to the ground, automatically bracing himself with his hands and making an attempt to stand back up*
Anaximander: *pins one shoulder to the ground with a strong hand and firmly holds the cloth up to Tristan's face with the other-- there may be a moment of fierce struggle, but the chemical works quickly, and Tristan is soon unconscious*

Tristan: [INTERMISSION YAY :D]
Tristan: [*plays Bohemian Rhapsody*]
Tristan: [Okay, back to the show.]

Tristan: *wakes up in the middle of an empty room; we're not certain where this is, but there's a possibility that it might be a basement room in Diogenes' house* *the room's entirely empty, though, with a large padlocked door (...okay, definitely Diogenes' house--) and tiny barred windows*
Tristan: *is lying on the floor, not tied up or anything; Anaximander has just recently drugged him, though, so he's slightly woozy and incoherent*
Anaximander: *standing in the shadows of the room, simply observing for now*
Tristan: *sits up slightly, propping himself on his elbows; would stand, if he thought he could manage it* *confusedly, thanks to the drugs* What-- what are you doing, Anaximander?
Anaximander: *steps forward a bit, lightly tossing something towards Tristan-- a scalpel* *it lands a few feet away from him and slides for another foot before it stops*
Tristan: *blinks at the scalpel, not touching it, just bewildered right now, and possibly nervous but not frightened quite yet* What's this for? *apparently, drugged!Tristan doesn't ramble; it's a sign of what the drug did to his mental state*
Anaximander: *simply* Fight me.
Tristan: *splutters, pushing himself backwards* No! I'm not fighting you. You're my brother.
Anaximander: Aloysius was Diogenes' brother.
Tristan: *still able to joke, apparently* And they had me. But I'm not sleeping with you either.
Anaximander: No. They fought. *picks up his own scalpel (dulled, might we add?), and begins walking towards Tristan*
Tristan: *backs up until he's at the opposite wall* You don't have to be like your father, Anaximander.
Anaximander: *freezes* *then almost petulantly, childishly* But I want to.
Tristan: *freezing is good!-- we'll go with this train of thought, knowing that Diogenes is attempting to lie low* Diogenes hasn't tortured anybody recently, has he? *rubs at his eyes, attempting to make everything less blurry*
Anaximander: Oh, but he has. *proudly* Father tells me everything. *moves closer, kicking the scalpel along the ground* Fight me. Do I have to make you?
Tristan: *well, shit--* *has nowhere to go, but still stands his ground; or, you know, sits his ground* I won't be like you.
Anaximander: *smoothly kneels down in front of him* You have no choice, brother. You are Diogenes' son. You're already too much like me. *picks up the second scalpel (the one not his) and holds it up* This is your last chance.
Tristan: *shakes his head* I'm Diogenes and Aloysius' son. That makes all the difference.
Anaximander: *proceeds to calmly stab one scalpel into Tristan's upper right thigh, pushing it in as far as it will go*
Tristan: *okay, that was pretty much expected, but it's still sudden; at least this is the sharpened one* *there's a sharp intake of breath and a wince of pain*
Anaximander: *takes the scalpel back out again* If you will not play one game with me, I will play another with you.
Anaximander: *smiles calmly, seemingly more put-together when he's torturing somebody; handcuffs Tristan's left wrist to a convenient metal ring on the wall* How good are you at chess?
Tristan: *winces again at that, quickly moving his right hand over the wound to staunch the blood* Better than you'll ever be.
Anaximander: *an unblinking stare-- Anaximander doesn't understand the concept of dark humor, or really, any humor at all except for scenarios that he's dreamed up that could be macabre humor-- if you squinted at them* *leaves the room for a moment, bringing back a chess board*
Anaximander: For every piece of yours I take, this-- *holds up the blunt scalpel now*-- will touch your skin. For every piece of mine you take, you will have 10 minutes of peace to recover.
Tristan: *remembers the last time he saw a scalpel and closes his eyes; in an uncharacteristically subdued tone* I'm not playing.
Anaximander: Then I will play for both of us.
Anaximander: *after a few quiet and contemplated moves on the board, a knight will take one of Tristan's pawns* *calmly reaches out and runs the scalpel along Tristan's collarbone, pressing hard*
Tristan: *lets out a muffled yelp, because his eyes were closed-- and now there is a jagged-looking tear on his upper chest, the blood beginning to seep down* *opens his eyes now*
Anaximander: *again, childishly* Will you play?
Tristan: *grits his teeth against the pain* No.
Anaximander: *without a word, continues playing the chess game, a maniacal look growing in his eyes; a bishop is taken now* *raises the scalpel meditatively, then pressing one hand down on Tristan's left hand, scrapes the scalpel down one side of the little finger, effectively shredding half the flesh on that finger*
Tristan: *was prepared for something, but certainly not that much pain* *bites down on his lower lip to keep from making any noise, because that would spur Anaximander on*
Anaximander: *and that's perfectly true, but it leads to an entirely new plan, which might not be good--* I'm bored of this. *messily shoves the chess board aside* Do you want to hear some poetry?
Tristan: *takes a deep breath* It's not like I have a choice.
Anaximander: *begins reciting, with demonstrative moves from the scalpel whenever it applies* First mead and then sweet wine, water mixed with white flour. *a small gouge across one of Tristan's cheeks*
Anaximander: Then prayed I many a prayer to the sickly death's-heads. *a cross in the middle of his chest; none of this is very deep, but it's all done with a blunt and slightly rusty scalpel, so it's not likely to clot or heal anytime soon*
Tristan: *will try to stay as poker-faced as possible, but the winces are pretty difficult to miss*
Anaximander: As set in Ithaca, sterile bulls of the best; For sacrifice, heaping the pyre with goods. *a gash down Tristan's right arm*
Anaximander: A sheep to Tiresias only, black and a bell-sheep. Dark blood flowed in the fosse. *nicking a small vein in the crook of Tristan's left arm*
Tristan: *the wound on his thigh has stopped bleeding now, so with a little effort, will move his right hand to attempt to staunch that wound*
Anaximander: Souls out of Erebus-- *stops, smiles a calculated smile, and slashes deeply across where Tristan's heart is*
Tristan: *--the drugged feeling is completely gone for a few seconds, and he sits upright, eyes widened* How did you--
Anaximander: *continues, ignoring him* --cadaverous dead, of brides; of youths and of the old who had borne much; souls stained with recent tears-- *laughs softly, a slightly unhinged laugh; then jams the blunted scalpel into the small cavity between the knee cap and the upper tibia, giving it a sharp yank downwards-- which probably severs a few tendons and causes a tremendous amount of pain*
Tristan: *was about to say something, but is sufficiently cut short, letting out a small whimper despite his best efforts*
Anaximander: *is seemingly done with the poem; onto even more educated efforts to break his half-brother* *recites* I have often repented speaking-- *pulls the scalpel back out, as Tristan lets out something of a strangled yelp*-- but never of holding my tongue. *stabs it into Tristan's rib cage, managing to angle it between two ribs and also managing not to hit any vital organs*
Tristan: *and that would be a quote by Xenocrates, as all good (or evil) Pendergasts know; he's managed to corrupt two of the happiest things in Tristan's life simply by a scalpel and reciting things (and by being family, which Tristan usually trusts)-- so the sharp cry as the scalpel slips between the two ribs is both of pain and indignation*
Anaximander: *leaves the scalpel there for the moment, reaching into a pocket to pull out a small packet of what looks like brown sand*
Tristan: *blinks at it, slowly recognizing what it might be* That isn't--
Anaximander: *oh, but it is; who knows how he got it, though it could be possible that Diogenes stole it from police evidence or the museum or whereever they kept it-- but it's a small portion of the ground-up diamonds that Diogenes had stolen from the museum* It is a reminder of our past.
Tristan: *weakly* I-- I think our history is memorable enough without souvenirs.
Anaximander: *simply smiles, cutting open an area on Tristan's back, making a few shallow cuts on the skin with the scalpel and literally pouring some of the ground diamonds into the cuts*
Tristan: *struggles a little, but really, is too weak to fight back*
Anaximander: The past hurts, brother. *carefully take out a piece of cloth, wrapping it around his hand-- then presses down on the wounds and literally grinds the diamond fragments into Tristan's back*
Tristan: *and saying that that hurt would be a complete understatement--* *attempts to pull away, but the handcuff kind of hinders that*
Tristan: *and the drug was injected right before Tristan woke up, so it's beginning to take its full effect now-- he can barely move his mouth to form words* S-stop this, right now. Or at least-- Give me-- *slightly fierce, finally* If I weren't handcuffed and drugged... *trails off, feeling slightly faint from the blood loss*
Anaximander: *if there was any sanity remaining, would say "Sorry, you had your chance to fight back"; smiles instead, a rather bright and innocent one* I have seen with my own eyes the Sibyl hanging in a jar. *slams his fist down on the scalpel that's still sticking out from Tristan's chest, probably managing to break a rib and lodging the scalpel blade inside his chest*
Tristan: *a miserable sound; doesn't even have the energy to yell anymore*
Anaximander: *he's all smiles as he carefully slits one of Tristan's wrists with the sharpened scalpel; not deep enough to cause any severe damage, but just enough to start the bleeding* And when the boys asked her "What do you want?" *a soft rustle of cloth, and he hands Tristan a small handgun*
Tristan: *doesn't take the handgun; the right hand has dropped from the wound on arm, but there isn't enough energy left in him to take the handgun even if he had wanted to*
Anaximander: *puts the gun in Tristan's right hand, wrapping his fingers around Tristan's to make a fist; raises Tristan's arm to help him point to gun at his temple*
Tristan: *blearily looks at Anaximander and the gun, something deep inside of him yelling 'No!' and that he should fight it-- but there's so much pain--*
Anaximander: She answered, "I want to die." *unlocks the safety catch, finger on the trigger*

Anaximander: *-- and suddenly, there's a pounding at the door*
Rain: Anaximander? Are you in there? Your brother told me to keep an eye on you tonight.
Anaximander: *freezes, because he didn't expect this to happen; it wasn't a part of his plan, so now he has no clue what to do*
Tristan: *had snapped out of his thoughts at the pounding, and now summons up enough energy to knock the gun out of Anaximander's hand so that it slides across the floor to the other side of the room* *hoarsely* Rain!
Rain: *that's all she needed to hear to know that something was wrong; bursts into the room in a rush of flame, stopping short as she sees the state Tristan's in*
Anaximander: *stands up, tilting his head at her, finding nothing wrong with this scene* Sister.
Rain: *fiercely* Brother. What is this? Get upstairs right now.
Rain: *after making sure that Anaximander was locked away in his room, and making a hurried call to Nicomedes, rushes to Tristan's side*
Tristan: *attempts to sit up, but oh god, that's a scalpel blade inside his chest* *quietly* I'm okay.
Rain: You are not okay. You've just been-- *angrily demonmods away the handcuffs* What were you thinking, talking to him? What did-- We need to get you medical attention right away. I can't do anything besides stop the bleeding a little.
Tristan: *looking down at his hands* I thought he was family.
Rain: *metaphorically steps back for a moment and assesses the damage* *very succinctly* Fuck.
Nicomedes: *rushes in* Rain? I-- *stops*
Tristan: *growing very light-headed and dizzy* Don't you dare blame yourself for this. 's your birthday. *attempts to shift his leg, but the wince and whimper make it very evident that it doesn't work*
Nicomedes: *runs a hand through his hair* How could I not blame myself? This--
Rain: *places a hand on Nicomedes' shoulder* We need to get him some help. Now. Who knows how much blood he's lost.
Nicomedes: Right. Of course. *still slightly distracted, but takes out his phone to call the family doctor (because how can you explain something like this to the hospital?)*
Tristan: *speaking of blood loss, is almost on the verge of passing out, but he has something else to say before he does--* Don't tell Erebus about this until-- until I get a little better. Heal some more.
Rain: *gives him a look that says "You utter idiot"* But he'll be worried--
Tristan: *shakes his head decisively* I-- I don't want him to see me like this, but... but make sure you let him know that even my br-- *slight pause*-- even Anaximander can't change how I feel about him.
Tristan: *very, very quietly* No matter how much caffeine he might offer me. *gives a small smile*
Rain: *looks like she's between laughing at that and crying from the stress; she's seen far, far worse in Hell, of course-- but this is Tristan, and stuff like this should never happen to him--*
Tristan: *--and now, he's unconscious*

*Obviously, 'soon' really does mean soon, because Tristan's looking for a certain Erebus Hades, even though it might not seem like he is, because he doesn't want to seem too desperate, since it was just one date, right? Right. He's now wandering around outside juggling bowling pins, because obviously, juggling is the Erebus/Tristan mating call. Or something. The typist is on crack, because she just wants to get this posted.*
